Spatial Analysis- Maximum Temperature Across India

I had been involved in understanding the spatial climatic changes that have occurred over the past century over India. The problem however, is the availability of the data. It is hard to find data in some parts of India. For eg: the data for the maximum temperature changes that have occurred over the past century, helps in understanding the distribution changes with regards to the environmental and the climatic changes from several contributing factors.


While most of the data, helps in modeling studies, I wish to make the model more accurate instead of relying just on the correlation factors. Several dimensions of data has been gathered so far. At present, Equinox Logic has approximately, 4 GB of data analysed across India.
Spatial databases such as Oracle, and PostGIS have helped us tremendously in performing the analysis. Most of the SVG files generated from our analyis have been around 70MB. One can very well understand, how much spatial information, has been accounted in.
Most of the climatic models also rely on the weather patterns. But, with several man-made factors contributing, the number of dimensions keep on increasing. It does not help just collecting the historical data.
The need for a mathematical model is such that, it should very well take these factors into account, but should not rely heavily on the statistical correlation. Associating merely on statistical factors might work but, is certainly not a true representation of the environmental interactions for the study.
Well, we had collected the maximum temperature data from numerous cities across India. A spatial representation of the maximum temperatures across India was prepared. Part of the problem with this was that, the data was in various formats, the structure of the data was not consistent. This meant transforming the data into required formats in order to visualize spatially. The figure is representation for maximum temperature in the past 100 years till 2000 for about 24 cities across India.
